
Glauco Sölter
Bass player from southern Brazil, currently based in São Paulo. He is a sought-after performer and recording artist, collaborating with numerous musicians both in Brazil and internationally.
For over 15 years, he served as the musical director for renowned trombonist Raul de Souza.
As a composer and bandleader, he has released five albums, and is a member of the groups Mano a Mano Trio, Duo Bandolaxo, and Projeto Cataia (with Arismar do Espírito Santo).
During the period of 35 years of his carrer he had the pleasure to work with names like João Bosco, Airto Moreira, João Donato, Ron Carter, Badi Assad, Richard Bona, Toninho Horta, among many others.

the history of bass in Brazil.

GROOVES WORKSHOP
This group class explores the history of the Contra-Baixo in Brazil, tracing its rise in popular music from the early 20th century to the present day.
The course will cover the origins of Brazilian grooves, known as “levadas,” and their adaptation for bass. Additionally, it will highlight influential Brazilian bassists and key recordings.
The class will begin with a brief introduction to the book “Levadas Brasileiras,” followed by listening sessions where students will analyze
bass grooves, ask questions about techniques, and play along withoriginal recordings.
This workshop is open to all instruments and allows students to play avariety of Brazilian rhythms, including Bossa Nova, Samba, Baião, andmore. Under the guidance of the instructor, students will perform pieces from Brazilian music, such as “Corcovado” (Tom Jobim), “Sina” (Djavan), “Incompatibilidade de Gênios” (João Bosco), “O Ovo” (Hermeto Pascoal), and “Mr. Funk Samba” (Banda Black Rio). These selected pieces have a didactic purpose and are designed to be accessible, enabling students to focus on the unique aspects of each rhythm.
